SCHOOL IS OUT CAMPS!

Don’t know what to do with the kids over Thanksgiving break? We are offering a great alternative to sitting around the house this holiday for kids 3 and older (Potty trained is a must)! Eagle’s Wings Athletics will be having a camp Monday November 24th thru Wednesday November 26th and again on Friday November 28th. Join us from 8a-1p, 1p-6p. 8a-3p or 8a-6p for 1, 2, 3 or 4 days. If you are coming to any session except 1p-6p, please pack a sack lunch for your child. A morning and afternoon snack will be provided by EWA. Students staying for more than a 5 hour session must be 5 years or older. Kids will do crafts, play games, jump on trampolines, build forts and more at our exciting camp during the break. Limited space, reserve your spot today! [more information]

LOCAL GYMNAST EARNS SPOT ON NATIONAL TEAM

Sabrine (rt) & Heather (lt)

Sabrina Schwab, of Eagle’s Wings Athletics (EWA) in Allen, has earned a spot on the TOPs National Gymnastics A Team and will be heading to Bela Karoyli’s ranch near Houston for all expenses paid training with the National Gymnastics coaching staff in December.

The Talent Opportunity Program (TOPs) is a talent search and educational program for 7 - 11 year old female gymnasts. During the summer they are tested on physical abilities such as pull- ups, leg lifts, flexibility, sprint, rope climb, vertical jumps, push-ups and press handstands. If they do well enough they are invited to the National TOPs test in October. At that time they are evaluated on the same physical abilities, as well as some basic gymnastics skills on each of the four individual events – vault, uneven parallel bars, balance beam and floor exercise.

“At the testing,” said Sabrina, “I probably showed my strengths on the physical ability side of the test because my coaches train us very hard on our conditioning.”

Out of the 300 gymnasts selected from around the country, only 25 from each age group (9,10, and 11) make the National Team.

Sabrina, who tested in the 11-year old division, is aware this is her last year to be eligible for the team. “I feel great knowing I made TOPs two years in a row, and I’m really excited to go to the training camp in December for one last experience for TOPs,” she said.

10-year old Heather Udowitch, who missed making the A team by .6, is on the B team. She has the opportunity to attend Karoyli’s training camp, at her own expense, the week following the A team.

Breven Zabilka and Paige Williams had qualified to do the National Testing, however Williams was unable to go due to an injury.

GYMNASTS QUALIFY FOR NORTH STATE

Members of Eagle’s Wings Athletics’ (EWA) level 5 USA Gymnastics girl’s team competed in the District 3 Championships hosted by WOGA Frisco November 1-2.

Sara Philips, Brenna Brooks, and Kylie Harris qualified to go on to the North State competition in the Gold division by being in the top eight all-around spots. Sara earned fourth place all-around (36.825) by taking bronze on balance beam (9.325) and tying with Brooks on floor exercise (9.5). Sara took the silver while Brenna took the bronze as there are no awards for a tie. The athlete with the higher all-around score wins the tie on an individual event. Brenna also placed fourth on uneven bars (9.55) to earn sixth all-around (36.375). Kylie placed sixth on floor exercise (9.375), seventh on balance beam (9.275) and eighth on bars (9.25) and all-around (36.25) to earn the last spot in the Gold division.

Advancing to the silver division, those with the eight next highest all-around scores, were Alex Vinez and Avery Cleveland. Alex earned the first spot at ninth all-around (36.175), with sixth place on uneven bars and eighth on beam. Avery earned sixth place on vault, seventh on bars and 14th all-around (35.025).

One gymnast, Sierra Thain, competed level 5 Achievement. She earned the fifth highest score of the 42 competitors. She earned second on balance beam and tied for the third highest score on uneven bars.

Head coach Tatiana Schegolkova, along with Virginia Oas and Alex Atamas, coach the USAG girl’s team at EWA.
